self reliance

I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.  Phillipians 4:13

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.  Proverbs 4:5

The unbeliever looks at these two verses and sees a conflict in their direction to the follower of Christ.  The reason is simple, the fool seeks excuses to reject correction and discipline.  A wise person looks for good advice in the seasoned sources.  The Bible and the Holy Spirit are the best of those Sources based on thousands of years of evidence.  Your involvement in life includes choices in direction, not waiting for God to tell you to get to it.

Please don't quote Benjamin Franklin's statement, "God helps those who help themselves" as Scripture.  You won't find it in the Bible.  The sentiment is true, but that quote is mis-attributed to the Holy Scriptures.
